Virgin Media tweet at EA Sports offering help with their server issues

EA Sports online servers have been experiencing numerous issues over the last couple of days, rendering players unable to take part in any of the online modes in FIFA. The magnitude of the connectivity problems even led to Virgin Media offer their help to EA via Twitter.

FIFA is without a doubt one of the biggest – if not the biggest – sports games on the market. The EA Sports football mammoth is famous for its dynamic style of gameplay and numerous game modes, the most popular of which is FIFA Ultimate Team.

Of course, since FUT is an online game mode, decent internet speeds are essential to experiencing this mode without any lag issues. But sometimes, even great internet speeds are still not enough to ensure a smooth online experience in FIFA, as the game’s connection issues have been known to lie elsewhere – and sadly, the last couple of days have been the prime example of this.

Namely, over the last weekend, one of EA’s official Twitter profiles called FIFA Direct Communication
were forced to put out a number of tweets where they kept their fans posted on all their efforts to fix the connectivity issues which were happening way too many times for comfort.

Naturally, fans were absolutely livid
with everything that was happening at the time, especially given the fact that all the problems started happening on a weekend, which is when most Ultimate Team players tend to get their game on in the FUT Weekend League.

One of the things that caused an absolute stir in the game’s community is the fact that certain FIFA Pro
players were forced to play a game of Rock-Paper-Scissors and thus decide the winner as they couldn’t invite each other to a match in a licensed EA qualifier, all due to the servers being down.

While most of the issues have now been ironed out and fixed, the woes of EA Sports and their weekend-to-forget are still far from being forgotten as one of the biggest ISPs in the UK, Virgin Media, have publicly offered their help to EA via Twitter.

Tagging multiple EA Sports accounts in their tweet
, Virgin Media have asked for EA to get in touch with them via direct message to discuss the issues affecting some of FIFA’s game modes. The sheer fact that one of the most popular internet providers around decided to publicly address the publisher and their connection problems speaks volumes about the abysmal state that the EA servers seem to be in.

Hopefully though, all the attention this online drama has received over the last couple of days will cause EA to vastly improve their online services and present their players with a truly complete package with the next iteration of FIFA, if not sooner.

Archaeology launch date unearthed! – March 30th! – News

It’s been a long excavation since Archaeology was first spotted among the soil of RuneFest, but RuneScape’s newest skill is finally ready to be liberated from its subterranean tomb.

We’re delighted to say that Archaeology will arrive in RuneScape on March 30th!

In Archaeology you’ll use your mattock and your wits to solve some of the biggest mysteries of Gielinor’s past. You’ll excavate strange artefacts, restore them, and gain their powers. You’ll rediscover the art of ancient Summoning, reinvent bygone technologies – and ultimately earn the right to call yourself an Archaeology Master.

Archaeology is absolutely rammed with content – it’s a Gathering and Manufacturing skill, it has six large explorable areas, and it’s bursting with rewards that offer significant gameplay benefits. And we have big plans for post-release support and updates for it throughout the year.

But it goes beyond simply the skill, the treasures and the new locations – far greater mysteries still await discovery. Catch up on the illuminating adventures of Guildmaster Tony who has been documenting his journey to lift the secretive veil surrounding the soaring StormGuard Citadel, the fiery Warforge!, the forgotten fort of Kharid-et and the haunting Everlight. And keep an eye out for his final journal, which will delve into the dusty cellars of the Infernal Source.

We’ve got lots more to share with you over the coming weeks, so gather your hat, your mattock and your sturdiest boots – there’s turbulence on the horizon…

Hideki Kamiya Wants To Make Everything, Even a Dante vs. Bayonetta Game

In a recent panel held at PAX East, Hideki Kamiya has expressed his desire to work on games like Viewtiful Joe, Okami, and even a Dante vs. Bayonetta.

Hideki Kamiya is one of the most prolific directors working for Platinum Games. He is currently working on a brand new IP Project G.G and the upcoming The Wonderful 101 Remastered. He was attending PAX East to promote their upcoming projects and answered some questions during a panel at PAX East.

When he was questioned about which old IP he wants to revisit in the future, Kamiya had a candid response to this question.

“Okami 2… Scalebound… Viewtiful Joe 3… Dante vs. Bayonetta… Devil May Cry 0… I want to make everything! Please email Capcom, ” said Kamiya during the panel.

This is not the first time Kamiya has expressed his interest in revisiting IPs that he has previously worked on in the past. He had a similar response during an interview with Dengeki PlayStation a couple of years back.

“I would like to work on the remake of Devil May Cry or Viewtiful Joe or on the right sequel for Ōkami. A cooperative game with Dante and Bayonetta would also be interesting. Dear Capcom, if that’s ok, I’ll help whenever you need me, ” said Kamiya in his interview with Dengeki PlayStation.

Capcom has started to revisit their old IPs and is relaunching some of them on the current generation. They have released a remaster of Onimusha and Okami. Devil May Cry 5 was a major success for Capcom and the sales of the game have eclipsed Devil May Cry 4, the previous best-selling game in the series. Bayonetta 3 is still in development at Platinum Games although Kamiya is not working on the game as a director.

Destiny 2 will remove paid loot boxes in favor of a Fortnite-style battle pass

Destiny 2 is the latest game to abandon paid loot boxes, with director Luke Smith announcing in a new “Director’s Cut” state of the game update that “we want players to know what something costs before they buy it.”

The change means that the randomized “Bright Engram” items will be removed from the in-game Eververse Store. Players will still be able to purchase paid cosmetic items in two ways: by directly purchasing an item they desire or by buying the Fortnite-style seasonal pass and unlocking it there. (Although some items will only be available for direct purchase.) The difference is that, now, you’ll know exactly what you’re buying and how much it will cost upfront in Destiny 2, instead of rolling the dice on getting the cosmetic item you want.

The randomized “Bright Engram” loot boxes will still remain in the game, but they’ll exclusively be available for free for players to earn through the free-to-play portion of the season pass; players won’t be able to spend real-world money on them anymore.

Players will still be able to purchase items from the Eververse Store with a free in-game currency called Bright Dust, should they want a premium item without having to shell out the cash. (Obviously, Bungie isn’t too generous when it comes to distributing the free resource, given that it wants players to pay for things. The pool of Bright Dust items also tends to include only older cosmetics from prior seasons.)

The move away from loot boxes in Destiny 2 reflects the changes to the game (and the overall industry) that we’ve seen in the past few months. Last year, Bungie announced that Destiny 2 would be shifting to a free-to-play title, with seasonal passes that players could buy upfront at the beginning of a season of content for $10 to unlock items and cosmetics as they leveled up over time. It’s a strategy pioneered by the massively popular Fortnite, which runs entirely on a similar system of paid cosmetics and a battle pass.

The gaming industry, in general, has seen a massive backlash against randomized loot boxes in the past year; there’s now talk of legislation that would ban selling the items to minors, and Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft have all committed to disclosing the odds of getting items from loot boxes in future titles. Developers Activision Blizzard, Bandai Namco, Bethesda, Bungie, EA, Take-Two Interactive, Ubisoft, Warner Bros., and Wizards of the Coast have also made similar pledges.
