Apex Legends hop-up rework could shake up the meta

Hop-ups can be the difference between a kill or a death in Apex Legends, allowing you to improve your weapon with one Epic or Legendary attachment.

These attachments come only in the rarest varieties, and change each season, meaning that every few months there’s a fresh way for you to shake up how you play or use specific guns.

For example, Season 5 brought back Skullpiercer Rifling, which was first seen in Season 2. You can stick it on your Longbow DMR or Wingman and increase their headshot multiplier from 2.0 to 2.5 and 2.25, respectively.

Apex Legends Double Tap Trigger Hop Up

Hop Ups, such as the Double Tap Trigger, can be attached to certain weapons to make them considerably stronger.

Naturally, this means that each season players look forward to the new hop-ups that will be available, either as a completely new introduction or the return of old favorites.

One player, though, has taken matters into their own hands, by creating a host of potential new hop-ups that they believe Respawn could introduce into their battle royale title, and they sound particularly interesting.

Sharing their ideas on Reddit, Angry_Worgen showed off what could be some interesting additions to Apex Legends.

  • Barrel Synchronizer (Legendary) — Compatible with: Alternator
    • Allows the weapon to fire two bullets at a time, but halves the fire rate.
  • A.P. Rounds (Legendary) — Compatible with: Longbow DMR, Mastiff
    • Deals damage split equally between health and shields.
  • Rapid Fire (Legendary) — Compatible with: G7 Scout, Wingman
    • Increased fire rate at the cost of reduced damage and increased recoil.
  • Ricochet Rounds (Epic) — Compatible with: Spitfire, EVA-8
    • Bullets will bounce off of surfaces and deal reduced damage (40% after first bounce, 15% after second bounce).
  • Heatsink (Epic) — Compatible with: L-Star
    • This weapon can fire longer before overheating. Also reduces the time of manual cooldown.
Apex Legends new hop up ideas

These Apex Legends hop ups could shake up the meta.

These ideas could definitely help shake up the guns that are predominantly used in the game, as well as help make some more viable.

The A.P. Rounds could greatly help if you get into a gunfight on the edge of the zone, taking health from enemies in the storm could help you fight off those pesky enemies holding you back. After all, they take both shield and regular HP.

Obviously, these ideas make for some interesting consideration, but whether they would actually be viable in the game is a whole other question. As Worgen says, they are not an expert on game balance or anything similar, although the Apex devs may yet take inspiration from these ideas.

Yakuza Director Praises Ghost of Tsushima, Says Japan Should’ve Made It

Kotaku EastEast is your slice of Asian internet culture, bringing you the latest talking points from Japan, Korea, China and beyond. Tune in every morning from 4am to 8am.

Toshihiro Nagoshi, Sega’s executive director of the Yakuza games, has many good things to say about Ghost of Tsushima.

Ghost of Tsushima is a worldwide hit, and it has been well received in Japan. In a recent Sega livestream (via Hachima), Nagoshi was asked about his thoughts regarding the game’s success.

“To be honest, we [Japan] were beaten,” he replied with a chuckle. “Yeah, of course, we’re losing. Honestly, I think that’s a game that should be made in Japan.” But, he continued, you can tell that the developers did a massive amount of research.

Not everything in the game is accurate, such as even basic, non-historical things like when particular flowers bloom is wrong. As I previously mentioned, there are things the game bungles for the time period (sake brewing, for example). However, this game is not a historical documentary, which is also true for many Japanese-made TV shows and movies. These too take tremendous liberties with history, just as Hollywood movies do. But yes, Sucker Punch did do research, visited Tsushima, and worked with Japanese partners and consultants while developing the game to create something that Japanese players could actually enjoy.

Nagoashi found the game very impressive—and, for him, not merely on the surface. “The Kurosawa Mode doesn’t simply change the color [to black and white], but has more of a technical approach by properly changing the number of frames to that in old movies.”

“Foreigners who tickle the fancy of Japanese people more than Japanese people are…rather amazing, no?” Nagoshi added, “There’s like a notion that Westerners don’t understand things (about Japan), but that hypothesis itself is mistaken.”

The Sega exec also praised other elements about the game, including the directional wind, and how the game offers players the ability to explore in a natural way while balancing a story without a heavy guiding hand. “It’s so great,” he said.

“I don’t know the actors who did the motion capture, but the care given to their expressions is impressive,” Nagoshi continued, adding that the performances were outstanding. He was also impressed with the glances and looks the characters give during cutscenes. He pointed out that, at Sega, this was something his team aimed for, explaining that this sort of detail of time-consuming.

“The protagonist [Jin] isn’t a particularly handsome lead, don’t you think? At your typical [Japanese] company, if you showed concept art for a character like him, I don’t think it would be approved.” The marketing team, he continued, would offer all this data stating why such a lead character was a bad idea, and that would be the end of a lead like Jin. Nagoshi thought it was amazing that such a protagonist was the lead character.“All this money and development time is being spent on this middle-aged dude.” He applauded the resolve to entrust things in such a character. From what Nagoshi said, it doesn’t seem like that would be possible in Japan. Perhaps he thinks game companies would prefer a younger protagonist, which is certainly more common in Japanese games.

“There are numerous things I bow my head to, like aiming at setting a game in that time period…I could go on and on,” said Nagoshi. “I feel an earnest sense of a job well done.”

Shadows Die Twice Free Update to Bring Gauntlets, Remnants on October 29

Remnants – Recordings for Recovery

Whether you are a new player ready to experience Sekiro for the first time or are gearing up to face past challenges once more, expect a brand-new player movement and text recording system that could aid you and your fellow wolves on your journey.

Remnants are recordings of what a player does in-game for up to 30 seconds at a time and are available for use after the game’s tutorial. After a player records their Remnant – whether it is an epic takedown of an enemy or a flawless demonstration of a tricky movement technique – it can be uploaded along with a written message so that other community members can play it back. Through these Remnants, one could hope that they or others may gain the knowledge and further insight to overcome their current obstacle. For those seeking ultimate guidance on traversing treacherous areas, or seeking hidden alcoves or curious cubby-holes, these records may prove a blessing from the gods.

If a community member watches and then rates a Remnant, the owner of it will have their HP recover for free, allowing them to get back into the fight quicker without the use of a Sculptor’s Idol, or consumable items such as Healing Gourds.

All the above will be available as part of the October 29 free update.

If you don’t have Sekiro already, buy it here for the platform of your choosing – the PlayStation®4, PlayStation®4 Pro; Xbox One X (and other Xbox One devices); and PC via Steam –  or play it on Stadia starting on October 29.

For almost 600 pages of finely-detailed tactics for this game, be sure to obtain the Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Official Game Guide, available now.

Take Revenge. Restore your Honor. Kill Ingeniously.

Grand Theft Auto leaker reveals new heist details & GTA 6 map location

A Grand Theft Auto leaker who accurately predicted GTA V would be ported onto PS5, as well as Online updates, has revealed information about upcoming Rockstar projects.

This information comes from a leaker named ‘markothemexicam,’ who claims to have a roomate that used to work for Rockstar North before being let go along with nearly a 100 other employees.

In his latest post, the leaker claims that the upcoming GTA Online Update is about “the elite prostitution business” and that the “Mile High Club building will finally be open.”

Additionally, the “final” GTA Online update will be coming in December 2020 and it too will be a new heist: “I think that he [roomate] was referring to the last update for older generation,” he elaborated in the comments.

Grand Theft Auto Online's Characters: Michael, Franklin & Trevor
Rockstar Games

The leaker predicted several GTA Online updates.

Returning to Liberty City in December

“[My roommate] said that the new location is Liberty City. Niko Bellic is coming back, with his voice talent Michael Hollick,” he added. “The heist is about robbing gold reserves in Liberty City. Many freemode activities and Quick Jobs will be added to remastered Liberty City and future updates for PS5 will be based on Liberty City.”

This does line up with what many players had theorized as the future of GTA Online having locations from previous titles in the franchise.

GTA Online summer leak

The leaker warns players not to “expect much” from the summer update.

Vice City in GTA 6

Moving onto GTA 6, the leaker wrote that his roommate did not work directly on it, but did do some programming. According to markothemexicam, GTA 6 will take place in Vice City during an unknown time period.

Furthermore, the game will have unique weather systems that will affect NPCs such as “random lightning strikes, and he also expects the announcement to be “next year,” but noted he wasn’t given a deadline.

Rockstar Games
Rockstar Games

The leaker claims GTA 6 will be returning to Vice City.

This leaker has a history of accurate predictions

Back in April, Reddit user ‘markothemexicam’ made a post on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit where he revealed new details about GTA Online which would later come true.

“Next GTA Online update deadline is July 2020, but might be moved to August 2020,” he said at the time. As it turns out, he was right as the Rockstar confirmed the update would be arriving this summer.

He also accurately predicted the GTA V PS5 port, but noted how GTA Online content would be coming to the game’s single-player campaign: “Every vehicle and weapon and other content from Online will be added to story mode and that they are planning to add new system of discovering the vehicles, like legendary bike and similar to RDR 2 animal collecting.”

As always, take all of this with a grain of salt, but it will be interesting to see whether anything of this new content he’s predicted ends up actually coming true.

Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers Planned Western Release Confirmed in Koei Tecmo Financial Report

Koei Tecmo, the company which collaborated with Atlus to develop Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers, released their financial statements for the first quarter of their fiscal year ending March 2021 (consisting of April, May, and June 2020) today.

In the presentation slides for the financial results is a section reserved for Koei Tecmo titles planned to be released in the future. Within the “packaged games” category of this section, Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers is listed for a PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch release, specifying Koei Tecmo as developer. The planned release region is listed as “the West,” explicitly referring to North America and Europe.

No approximate release date is listed, however this is the first time Persona 5 Scramble has been explicitly acknowledged for a Western release by Atlus or Koei Tecmo.

The slide can be seen below, in Japanese.

Previously, Koei Tecmo released their FY ended March 2020 earnings report in April 2020, which mentioned a planned overseas release for Persona 5 Scramble. At the time, this could have simply referred to the Traditional Chinese and Korean releases of the game in June 2020. Today’s earnings report, however, explicitly refers to the West.

Alongside the release of Persona 5 Royal in the West, in March 2020, Atlus’ English player survey for the game included a question asking fans if they would buy Persona 5 Scramble if it were to be released in the West.

Possibly related to an English localization of the game, Nintendo’s earnings release reported in October 2019 had a section reserved for third-party publishers, which included the title “Persona 5 Strikers” as an upcoming game.

Subsequently, in December 2019, Sega Games trademarked the name “Persona 5 Strikers” along with a logo, further hinting that this would be a potential English name for the action RPG.

Recently, Atlus announced that Persona 5 Scramble had sold over 480,000 copies in Japan and Asia.

Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers was released for the PS4 and Nintendo Switch on February 20, 2020 in Japan. The action RPG was released on June 18, 2020 in Asia and South Korea.

Ghost of Tsushima: Patch 1.05 Details

Posted on

Later today, patch 1.05 for Ghost of Tsushima will be released, bringing new combat and text options.

This patch includes the following new updates:

New difficulty level: Lethal

  • – Enemy weapons are more deadly, but Jin’s katana is also more deadly
  • – Enemies are more aggressive in combat
  • – Enemies detect you faster
  • – Tighter Parry and Dodge windows

Patch 1.05 will also include the following new options in the accessibility menu:

Lower Intensity Combat

Lower intensity mode is meant to maintain the heart and feel of Ghost of Tsushima combat while relaxing several timing-specific elements. Combat is less intense, giving you more time to react. Stealth settings are more forgiving, and enemies take longer to detect you.

  • – Most enemy attacks which are normally unblockable become blockable when Lower Intensity is enabled. Blocking with L1 will keep you safe from more attacks than standard combat, though some attacks must still be dodged.
  • – Enemies break off their attack combos after damaging you, giving you a chance to recover before the next wave of attacks. In addition, your heavy attacks will interrupt attacks from Brutes, giving you another way to stop their combos.
  • – Enemies will not attack you while you’re using Resolve to heal
  • – Enemy awareness builds more slowly, giving you more time to recover after being spotted

Text changes

  • – Large Text option: Increases text size of subtitles, mission objectives and interact prompts by 150% when enabled
  • – Added option to turn speaker name off when subtitles are enabled
  • – New subtitle text color options in addition to white: Yellow, Blue, Red, Green

Patch 1.05 also includes additional bug fixes.

Nintendo 64 ‘Gigaleak’ reveals hidden Ocarina of Time beta data and Majora’s Mask content

These last few days have been wild in terms of Nintendo gigaleaks. We have seen everything from Luigi in Super Mario 64 source code, members of the community getting beta versions of games up and running again, and hidden contents in game files that we never knew existed. These Nintendo 64 gigaleaks are exciting and we have so much new content to talk about.

Speaking of members of the Nintendo community, it appears they have now uncovered a treasure trove of information regarding the Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask giga leaks. We have now been informed that there are character models, enemy models, and item models in the game’s source code that have been retrieved.

Leaked Zelda Enemy Models

Quite possibly the strangest enemy model found in the Zelda giga leak to date is this yellow, perhaps made out of an in-game gold material enemy, which the community believes is a beta version of the Iron Knuckle mini boss. This thing is kind of creepy looking. You can see some photos captured of it and posted by Twitter user MrTalida:

In the beta version of the game, an Octorok enemy model was found and assembled – it resembles the classic red sprite version of the Octorok that can be found in previous Zelda titles. It looks much less like the version that was in the released Ocarina of Time (the purple colored one).

You can see video footage of the red beta Octorok model from user Ganondork below:

The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time beta leak also gave us this tidbit on what Zelda’s trusty steed, Epona looked like in the beta version of the game. You can see that her colors are much brighter and more obviously polygon that the finished version we received.

Legend of Zelda Leak Locations and Dungeons

A fascinating discovery has been the Ocarina of Time beta locations that appear to differ pretty substantially from the versions we received in the released game. You can see one such location (Kokiri Forest) in the video below. From watching the video, it’s clear that this section in the game is quite expansive. The additional details in the beta are awesome to be able to see.

Now we’re moving onto the really interesting stuff. The beta version of Ocarina of Time has additional small dungeons in its sour code, spanning just around two to four rooms long, which members of the community think could be a boss rush mode. Thanks NintendoWire for more info on this.

We also have confirmation of the spider houses and beneath the well being present in the Ocarina of Time leaks. This is speculated to originally have been made for the MasterQuest Nintendo Disc Drive Expansion, but then used for Majora’s Mask instead.

Now that we have covered most of the Ocarina of Time gigaleaks that we have info on, let’s move onto The Legend of Zelda Majora’s Mask leak.

Majora’s mask has had community members scouring through its beta source code as well ever since it appeared online. Much beta content has been found so far.

In an older interview, it was stated by Nintendo that Majora’s Mask was originally not planned to take day during a 3 day time period, but instead over 7 days. Before release, the 7 day time frame was replaced because Nintendo was worried that a 7 day time period was too long and might over complicate the game’s experience for players. Graphics have now been found showing that the 7 day time frame mentioned is in fact true and development was begun with this in mind.

Users of the community have already begun digging up Legend of Zelda Majora’s Mask beta maps from the leaked code. While the map’s version doesn’t differ too significantly from the version that we received in the final game, you can spot some differences when put side by side.

And one of the most interesting finds regarding the Majora’s Mask gigaleak source code would have to be this entire archery mini game found in Great Bay. Why this was removed from the final version is not entirely clear, but I have a feeling we will learn more about this as things unfold even more.

With it only being a couple days now since all of these leaks initially hit the internet, the Nintendo community has already done great work digging through the files and revealing hidden never before seen content. It’s only a matter of time until more ground breaking discoveries are made and new areas are discovered.

It is theorized that a total of two terabytes of data is still out there and currently being combed through. While all of this is not Zelda related, it still is very exciting to see history unfold before our very eyes. Let us know in the comments below what your favorite finding is so far from all of these Nintendo gigaleaks.

Check out the main Nintendo Gigaleak thread where we covered everything as it unfolded.
